Trust in Charity - Where a little helps a lot
Since 1984 every new Liveryman has covenanted in favour of the Carmen's Benevolent Trust. Major events like the Carmen's Ball add to the Trust's funds.
The policy of the Trust is to give where a little helps a lot - homing in on needy Carmen or dependants, small charities, the alleviation of individual suffering or disability within the industry, and charitable causes with City, religious, health, educational or transport connections.
The Trust is especially active in education. Bursaries go to children at the City of London Freemen's School, and King Edward's School, Witley, where six-formers are helped to stay.
There are prize funds for the Freeman's School and Christ's Hospital where, since 1977, there has always been at least one pupil funded through the Carmen's benevolence.
Every year the Company keeps faith with its civic bedrock, giving to the Lord Mayor's chosen cause.
