Civic Supporters - Lord Mayors, Sheriffs and Councilmen
Carmen honour the City civic, support the Lord Mayor, and take a direct interest in the Corporation and other City institutions.
Nine Carmen have served the City as Lord Mayor, two since the 1980s: Sir Christopher Leaver GBE and the Lord Levene of Portsoken KBE.
Of seven who have also served as Sheriffs, three were Lay Sheriffs - those who are not sitting Aldermen or Common Councilmen within the Corporation: Jack Evan Cook, Tony Hart and Jeremy Gotch.
Among Common Councilmen there are two currently serving - Alfred Dunitz and Gerald Pulman
Carmen exercise their franchise in Common Hall twice a year, and welcome among their number those who aspire to civic office.
The Company supports the City & Guilds of London Institute as founder members, and City schools - Christ's Hospital, King Edward's School, Witley and the City of London Freemen's School. The Carmen's Window is one of twelve in the Crypt at Guildhall.
