Ladies and Gentlemen - home and abroad, by merit alone
The Company's rule book states unequivocally: '…admission shall be solely based on merit, and no other consideration of age, sex, creed, race, nationality or occupation, though due weight shall be given to … the transport industry'.
Carmen come in three sizes: Apprentices, Freemen and Liverymen.
Apprentices are gifted youngsters who 'serve' between the ages of 14 and 21 and learn their 'art and mystery of Carmen' - bringing future high fliers into the Company, to build its future.
Freemen join by servitude - past Apprentices; by patrimony - children of Carmen, and by redemption - after interview and approval, by entry 'fine'.
Liverymen are Freemen who are clothed with the Livery of the Company, having paid their dues, and been approved by the governing Court.
