Tri-Service Links - The Military's Friends
Ever since the Carmen offered to supply the Government with 420 Carts and 1,000 Horses in 1803, they have recognised Britain's armed forces, and sought to also serve.
In 1975 links were forged anew. Articles of Association were signed with the Royal Corps of Transport - the army's logisticians. That link continues with their successors, the Royal Logistic Corps, the largest entity in the Army. Many RLC officers join the Company.
During the first Gulf War the Carmen's crest appeared on 25 Freight Distribution Squadron RLC (The Carmen's) vehicles - a unique distinction.
That affiliation is currently borne by 19 Tank Transporter Squadron RLC. During Operation Telic ten years later, 19 Tank Transporter Squadron unofficially designated the unit which remained, The Carmen's Troop.
In 1946 the Carmen presented arms to HMS Anson, and in 1996 adopted HMS Cardiff. In 2004 the Company forged links with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary,
the Royal Navy Fleet's support force, crewed by merchant seafarers.
In 2002 a Letter of Association was witnessed by the Lord Mayor at Mansion House between the Carmen and No 2 Group, Strike Command RAF: 24 Squadron, RAF Lyneham, the first Hercules squadron, and the RAF Movements School, Brize Norton are specifically associated with the Company, and a Hercules is designated the Carmen's Flight. 2 Mechanical Transport Squadron is designated The Carmen's, as the third RAF unit associated with the Company.
